Birdman MC Gi’s are set to hit the streets in about five weeks.  These will be a limited run of just 50 uniforms…so once they are gone they will be gone forever.  All embroidered, original artwork by the world famous artist Mr Ewok One.  The price is $160 plus shipping…or simply stop by the academy.  All orders shipped outside the US will also receive a free t-shirt.

The academy is really coming along.  We had a bunch of new students start last week…the mats are starting to fill up.  If you haven’t been to the school yet, please feel free to stop by for a free class.

Big thanks to Jamie Cruz for stopping by a few Sunday’s ago.  A great time was had by all.  Everyone is still going nuts over all the fantastical jiu jitsu specific drills.  Jamie set us all straight with the do’s and don’ts of correct drilling.  Professor Cruz has been known to wake up screaming from nightmares of students drilling incorrectly.  I have heard from everyone there that the traing was very eye opening on how to really move your hips.  From new students to veterans of the game the word is clear on that.  Stop by the academy any Friday night in the month of March to see these drills in action.  We hit the mats at 7:15 pm, followed by an open mat 8:15 – 9:00 pm.
The weather here is a little nuts right now…snowing like crazy to be exact.  Technique of the Week will be back next week, had a little bump in production…didn’t shoot footage last week…sorry Eric. In case you don’t know, Eric is our film maker…Stafford Sports Media.  Check out his stuff on line, he does some great work.

We have a new discussion topic…apres jiu jitsu cuisine, or as I like to call it…feeding time at the zoo.  The fare of choice at Birdman BJJ is fried chicken, hot wings and pizza.  The crew and I will be stopping by all the local haunts and giving you the chow hound low down.  Just a good group of neighborhood grapplers taste testing the best that Brooklyn has to offer.  I made a solo flight with the Mrs. last night to Blue Ribbon on 5th Ave.  I ordered my ubiquitous fried chicken dinner,  complete with mashed potatoes and steamed green beans.  Simply the best fried chicken in all five boro’s.  Killer mashed potatoes and i sub green beans for the usual collards.  All the crackle and crisp good down home chicken should have, without sacrificing a bit of its juiciness.  I give it 5 out of 5 stars…this is the black belt of meals.  Pair the dinner with a sweet tea or a tall bottle of Brooklyn Local 1.  Next time me and the gang will pick a new place to invade and conquer…one finger licking bite at a time.

Want to see a technique broken down and explained in a simple and easy to understand way. Just drop us a line and let us know exactly what you would like to see. Anything from grips to finishes, take downs, sweeps and more. We have a very technical arm drag series coming out in the next few weeks…keep your eyes peeled. Now I am off to stack wood grab lunch then get on the road, I am looking forward to a fun Wednesday evening class then back on the mats at 7 am working with my morning guys.

In the next few videos we will be taking a look at a variety of guard passes. If there is something we miss, or maybe you would like to see, please shoot me an email and we will try our best to get it up here. The weekend storm brought us quite a bit of snow and a great open mat on Sunday. We logged about two hours of solid training…all good stuff. We then finished the session with a little Q&A about arm drags. This is a topic we will shoot for video in the next couple of weeks…stay tuned!!! Speaking of video shoots, I have to give a big hearty thanks to Eric Stafford from Stafford Sports Media. Eric does all of our technique video and is a great guy to have on the mats. I am very proud to have him in our crew. So, check out the vid and let me know what you think. Namaste…Birdman.

Well, we made it through the blizzard.  Me the mrs. and the boys took a walk to survey the situation…not too bad.  News reports show north of us got hit much worse.  Now I am looking forward to tomorrow’s open mat.  If anyone has been affected by the storm and shut out of training…stop by tomorrow, Sunday 2/10 at 12 noon, for some great training.  Cabin fever sets in quick, come out and roll with a great bunch of people.  Feel free to drop me a line if you have the urge for some BJJ…blizzard jiu jitsu.
